The black-tailed godwit is a very Dutch meadow bird. And still is. Because the natural values of the agricultural land are under severe pressure. Where the farm still leaves room for nature, the black-tailed godwit thrives. The black-tailed godwit is the ambassador of agrarian land where production and nature are in balance. Nowhere else in Europe do so many black-tailed godwits breed as in the Netherlands. In 2015, the black-tailed godwit was chosen by the Dutch public as the national bird.
