John James Audubon (born Jean Rabin, 1785 - 1851) was an American ornithologist, naturalist and painter. Remarkable are the extensive studies of all types of American birds, the detailed illustrations depicting the birds in their natural habitats. His main work, The Birds of America (1827-1839), is considered to be one of the most beautiful ornithological works ever made.
