This work shows a Black Rhinoceros (also known as Hook-lipped rhinoceros) walking straight towards the camera. I photographed this beautiful animal in a (semi-)desert in northern Namibia. The sun had just climbed above the horizon, giving the animal a slightly pink hue. While walking, the rhino lets the dry desert dust blow up. A small Ox-pecker can be seen on the rhino's back. This little bird frees its host from all kinds of pesky parasites. To make the rhino stand out against the background, I stylised and darkened the background. This created a nice contrast and gave the image a somewhat minimalistic character.
For me, this work is a good illustration of the beauty of nature in Africa and takes me back in my mind to all those unique moments I experienced there among the wild animals.
