Diamond Beach, a black beach filled with ice floes. The ice floes sparkle in the sun, which is why the black beach is nicknamed Diamond Beach. The ice floes you find on Diamond Beach come from the nearby glacial lake Jokulsarlon. This glacial lake was created by breaking ice from the Vatnajökull Glacier, Iceland's largest glacier. Global warming is melting the ice, creating the lake in 1935. Moreover, ice floes break off from the glacier, which then float on the lake. And since the glacial lake is connected to the Atlantic Ocean via a river, the ice floes are transported to the sea via the river thanks to a current. Then the waves of the sea wash the ice floes onto the nearby black beach, i.e. Diamond Beach. If you come at the right time, the whole beach shines with ice floes. Insane to see!
