Photo from the birdwatching station on Englishman Plate during sunset. It had been cloudy and rainy all day. Even on the boat there, it was still raining. But then the sun broke through the clouds. A beautiful spectacle.
The Engelsmanplaat is a large sandbank. Which falls dry during low tide. It lies in the estuary between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. On this dynamic sandbank in the Wadden Sea, dozens of shorebirds nest and hundreds of seals rest. Engelsmanplaat is usually uninhabited. Only during the bird-breeding season, two bird watchers in the sentry post here keep an eye on the peace and quiet of the breeding birds.
You only get there by boat, or by a mudflat walk from the Frisian mainland. During low tide, most of Engelsmanplaat is accessible. It was a unique experience.
Enjoy the vastness and tranquillity at home too, by buying this photo on wallpaper, canvas, dibond, or whatever you like. There are plenty of options.
The photo was taken on 24 July 2023.
