This photograph was made just after sunrise, very early in the morning in the midst of summer. I do love the very early summer mornings, when you can still be all alone in nature, because hardly anyone wants to be awake yet. Fog in the summer is usually very local and also very short-lived and this is also something I really enjoy, because what is there one moment, is gone then next. And the way the sun and fog mix together is never quite the same. I chose this scene with the broken birch trunks because they caught the light so beautifully and you might notice that I was just in time because the blue sky was already taking over from the morning mist. The diagonals formed by the fallen birch trees on the ground indicate a direction to the trees that are lit up.
