This photograph shows ripe bilberries hanging on their bush. These tasty and juice berries are ready to be picked and consumed. Sometimes the bilberry is confused with the blueberry and one of the differences is that they grow as single or paired berries rather then in clusters, as the blueberry does. In Sweden one might come across an entire family picking bilberries in order to produce jam for the rest of the year.
These berries are also great when eaten freshly picked, in pies or even in the typical bilberry soup (Blabarssoppa).
In Sweden it's everyman's right to collect bilberries from other man's land.
