Between savannah and sky - South Sudan's mountains in sight

by Rick Massar

As the sun sinks over the vast plains of Kidepo Valley National Park, the landscape turns into a sea of light and colour. The sky turns deep orange and red, while the savannah slowly fades into the evening shadows. On the horizon, the mountains of South Sudan loom - blue-grey and mysterious in the soft light of the setting sun.

It is a moment of pure serenity. The heat of the day gives way to coolness, the sound of crickets fills the air and the wind brushes through the tall grass. The combination of vast plains, glowing skies and distant mountains creates a sense of infinity - a reminder of how small and yet connected we are to nature.

This photo collection captures the magic of African twilight in Kidepo: the play of light and shadow, the depth of the horizon and the quiet power of a landscape that seems untouched by time. An ode to the beauty of simplicity, and to the place where day and night meet in harmony.
