About ‘Berlin - Red City Hall’ by Thomas Bugdoll

The Red City Hall is the seat of the Governing Mayor as well as the Senate of Berlin.

In addition, the eye-catching building is a well-known landmark of the city. The building near Alexanderplatz has its name not thanks to a political orientation, but from the facade with bright red bricks.

The Red City Hall was built between 1861 and 1869 according to the designs of Hermann Waesemann. Just four years after the foundation stone was laid, the first magistrate's meeting was held in the town hall. The red color of the bricks is particularly striking, and they develop their luminosity especially beautifully in the evening sun. The tower, which is almost 74 meters high, can be seen from afar.
