The Bayon temple, located in the heart of Angkor Thom in Cambodia, is known for its imposing towers with dozens of serene, smiling faces.
Carved in stone, these faces are widely believed to represent the face of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion - although some believe they also represent the face of King Jayavarman VII himself, who had the temple built in the 12th century.
The faces of the Bayon temple is part of Angkor, a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world.
