About "Battle of colours : Crane"

by Preet Lambon

About the artwork

This is a vertically oriented, expressive portrait of a bird, executed in a style strongly reminiscent of Neo-Fauvism or a digital interpretation thereof. The work is composed of sharp contrasts and saturated, often unnatural colours (a hallmark of the "anaglyphic" approach, although here it is more of a colour shift).

Main subject is an exotic Crowned Crane, whose head and neck are prominently depicted.

The background is dominated by large, contrasting areas of bright red/magenta (right) and warm orange/red (left). There is a clear suggestion of layering and transparency in the paint. The bird's colours blend into and blend with the background colours, creating a dynamic, almost 'glitchy' effect.

The painting style is rough and textured. There are vertical and horizontal stripes that give structure to the composition.

Visual Effect: The strong separation and shifting of the yellow and cyan tones across the bird's neck creates a stereoscopic or 'anaglyphic' effect, giving the bird a three-dimensional, pulsating appearance.
