The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi (Italian Basilica di San Francesco) in Assisi in Italy is the mother church of the Franciscans. The church is on the World Heritage List. The basilica consists of three parts. The base is the crypt containing the tomb of St Francis of Assisi. Two churches have been built on top of this: the lower church and the upper church.
