About the artwork

Pop art painting of a banana, in yellow, turquoise, pink and light blue

This work is entitled "Bananas on Canvas"

Pop art painting of four bananas, stuck with a piece of grey duct tape, each in a different coloured box. Colours: yellow, turquoise, pink and light blue.

Cheerful painting, a playful and bold eye-catcher. The bright colours and pop art design give an energy boost to any room. It can instantly transform a dull wall into a vibrant art statement. Bringing together humour and modern aesthetics, this artwork can create an informal, cosy atmosphere.

Beautiful in a modern, eclectic, industrial, or even retro interior. It would look great in a living room, dining room, kitchen or office. For a playful and artistic look, it could also suit a bar, café or art gallery.

An ode to the world's most famous banana - stuck, sold and eaten. In bright pop art colours and a nod to Andy Warhol.

The story of the banana became known in 2019 when artist Maurizio Cattelan showed it at Art Basel. A banana stuck to the wall with duct tape became art when it sold for $6.2 million. The buyer ate the banana as part of the art experience, because it was not about the banana itself, but about the idea. This artwork plays with the value of conceptual art - a 35-cent banana became worth millions simply because of what people see in it.

I found it funny and a little crazy that something so simple could be worth so much - especially since the buyer just ate the banana! I found the idea that something ordinary, like a banana, could suddenly become art interesting. So I translated this into a happy pop art-style painting, with bright colours and a nod to Andy Warhol, who also made ordinary things special.
