The white-tailed eagle is an imposing, very large bird of prey ('flying door') of wetlands. Feeds on fish, waterfowl and also carrion, especially when there is ice. For a long time a rare winter visitor, but nowadays even a breeding bird in the Netherlands in increasing numbers (2018: 14 pairs). Slow, deep wingbeat, but often screws on thermals in spring, summer and autumn. Usually solitary, but in places with lots of food, bald eagles may concentrate.
