Portrait of a baboon. Baboons are omnivores. They eat almost anything, mainly plant foods such as grass, bulbs and tubers, as well as reeds, leaves, fruits, seeds, pods and acacia resin and bark. For animal food, they take grasshoppers, snails, scorpions, honeycombs, lizards, eggs, fish and frogs. Sometimes they hunt birds and medium-sized mammals, from young monkeys, galagoshes and hares to young antelopes.
Baboons have many enemies. The most important is the leopard, but other predators such as lion, spotted hyena, cheetah, African wild dog, birds of prey and the black-backed jackal, and even chimpanzees and pythons sometimes catch a baboon. When in danger, one member of the group will warn the others with a scream, after which they will run in all directions, screaming loudly.
Baboons sometimes live in mixed groups with antelopes like impala and Grants gazelle and with green guenons. Although both species warn each other when they are in danger, a baboon may steal a young of the other species. (Wikipedia)
