The B-2 Spirit is an American strategic bomber with stealth technology (stealth bomber) for intercontinental distances. The aircraft is capable of ejecting both conventional and nuclear weapons. It has a shape that seemed unique for the time, but had been previously used by Nazi Germany in the construction of the Horten Ho 229.
The B2 is equipped with technology (such as special radar-absorbing paint) that make the aircraft virtually invisible on radar.
The U.S. Air Force initially planned to buy a large number of these aircraft from aircraft manufacturer Northrop. Eventually, due to the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s, only 21 aircraft were purchased. Due to the high development costs already spent and the drastically reduced number of aircraft, the price per aircraft rose to more than $2 billion. This means that the aircraft is literally worth its weight in gold.
