One early morning in early November, I was walking through the Haagse Bos. Having grown up in the Benoordenhout area, the Haagse Bos is still dear to me. The autumn colours of the trees are at their best.
Despite the early joggers, there is still a serene calm. The morning mist was slowly disappearing and the sun was already well established.
This overhanging branch caught my attention, because of the interplay of lines, because the sun in backlight lit up all the autumn leaves, and there was a nice reflection in the water. Moreover, it also provided a nice background. The shape of all the branches created an effect of depth, drawing you into the picture.
It took some effort to get to the best spot at the water's edge because of the dense bushes of hollyhocks. There was just enough space to put down my tripod; that works nicely when looking for the optimal cut-out.
Unbelievable that such beautiful nature is in the middle of the city. But then again, The Hague is also the city with the most parks.
A beautiful image that fits in any interior, one that will always attract attention.
Landscapes and townscapes are my favourite subjects. I search for beauty in the image; that can come from any of the compositional elements such as lines, shapes, rhythms, light/dark, colour combinations. For me a photograph is successful, when I can hang it on the wall.. Read more…
