About ‘Autumn Measure V – Crownline’ by Whale & Sons

Red, orange and yellow tree canopies form a broad horizontal band beneath a cool grey sky. Slender, dark trunks support the mass of colour and divide the forest into a series of vertical intervals. A flat strip of red and ochre frames the composition at the bottom.

Autumn Measure V – Crownline reduces the forest to three distinct layers: sky, canopy and ground. The tree canopies dominate the image and together form a single continuous zone of colour. Individual trees remain recognisable, but their crowns visually merge and create a rhythm across the full width.

Grainy edges and compact swathes of colour keep the forms direct and tactile. Here, the forest is not constructed through depth, but through repetition and horizontal arrangement. Crownline concentrates autumn into a single vivid band of colour, supported by a thin grid of trunks.
