Athens is a genus of owls (Strigidae).
The genus counts nine species in the IOC World Bird List classification.
The genus owes its name Athens to the 'owl of Athens', the Greek goddess of wisdom.
They are small stocky owls, about 21 to 27 cm long and with a wingspan of about 55 cm.
