The Hill Country. South Limburg with its rolling fields, hawthorn hedges, fast-flowing streams and hillside forests is the land where I was born and raised. The southernmost tip of the Netherlands where the honey is sweeter, the birds sing louder and where the church was once king.
I made this painting near the town of Mechelen. At the top of the opposite slope lies the Elzetter forest. In the distance, the Geul valley, the German Eifel and the Belgian Ardennes beckon.
