Pilotage on the Scheldt in Antwerp as seen from the MAS museum on the river. A Pep Ventosa style. Built in 1895.
The structure is located on the right bank of the Scheldt upstream of the inlet to the Bonaparte lock. The symmetrically designed building on a quasi-square ground plan, has a strong image-defining function as a binding agent between the old town and the port.
The Antwerp Pilotage Building was built between 1892 and 1895 in eclectic style on Tavernierkaai, housing the administrative services of the Pilotage. Architects Hendrik Kennes and Ferdinand Truyman drew the design.[1] Until 2016, the building housed the Shipping Inspectorate, the Pilotage Service and the Fleet and Maritime Scheldt.
