About ‘Antwerp Grote Markt’ by Frank Lavooij

he Grote Markt of Antwerp is a square in the city of Antwerp, located in the old town. Within walking distance (via Suikerrui) is the river Scheldt. It is a square with many guild houses.

The Grote Markt was a forum or square just outside the early medieval residential centre. Duke Henry I of Brabant (1165-1235) donated this community land to the city in 1220. The name Merct appeared for the first time in 1310. At that time, the first annual markets or forts took place here; merchants did business here. In the 16th century, the name was changed to Great Market.[1]

Features here include:

Eye-catcher is the City Hall, built in Renaissance style, on the foundations of the older burnt-down City Hall. It has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1999
The guild houses Spaengien on Grote Markt 7, de Spiegel on Grote Markt 9 and de Valk on Grote Markt 11

To mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Antwerp, a lime tree was planted as a tree of peace in 1994.
Many restaurants and cafés with terraces line the market. In winter, there is a Christmas market and the square is decorated and illuminated. Since 2017, the Tour of Flanders has started here. Several events are organised at this location: the entry of Sinterklaas, Winter in Antwerp, the celebration of the Flemish Holiday on 11 July, the Bollekesfeest, a bric-a-brac market and the Rubensmarkt. For the start of Tomorrowland, an international crowd will be welcomed with DJ's.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
