The rocky landscape of southwest America is home to many canyons, and one particular form of them is the slot canyon. The word 'slot' means 'narrow slot'; a slot canyon is a gorge with high vertical walls, which are very close together. Most slot canyons are formed in dry areas, where occasional violent floods occur. During such natural events, the water rubs stone and other debris through the softer rock layers, creating the narrow gorges. Near the town of Page in Arizona - on the territory of the Navajo Indians - are a number of slot canyons that are open to tourists. Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon have been very crowded in recent years, but Canyon X is still unknown to most tourists.
