About ‘Another Self-Portrait’ by Anita Snik-Broeken

After covering myself in clay, I dried myself off with a cheesecloth.
After covering myself in black acrylic paint, I dried myself off with a cheesecloth.
These actions resulted in this print, another self-portrait.

A monotype of my face and body. Made with brown clay and black acrylic paint on a piece of cheesecloth.
This photo shows only part of the work. The original work is a full-body print.

This technique creates an earthy, intimate yet alienating self-portrait that stares back at you. Recognisable, yet not quite. Earthy and serene, yet also strange, unsettling and almost unreal, not of this world.
