About the artwork

il ponte di waterloo, a masterpiece from André Derain's Fauvist period, belongs to a group of works inspired by the artist's trips to London, commissioned by Ambroise Vollard.

Derain, fascinated by the atmosphere of London, painted some 30 spectacular views of the banks of the Thames, resulting in a Fauvist rendering of the same subject, although far removed from Monet in both style and spirit. His way of translating these views of London into an expressive explosion of colour is closer to Turner's Venetian scenes than Monet's London paintings. On the advice of his friend Matisse, Derain had gone to see Turner's paintings in London museums, especially his unfinished paintings such as The Thames above Waterloo Bridge and Norham Castle, which were first shown at the Tate Gallery shortly before he arrived in the city.

André Derain (Chatou, France, 10 June 1880 - Garches, 8 September 1954) was a French painter and sculptor, who was also active as a jewellery designer. The artist was friends with Matisse and De Vlaminck, and together the painters are considered the founders of fauvism.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
