The Hogesluis Amsterdam is a monumental double bascule bridge with ten passages, designed by William Springer Parisian style. The older bridge from the 17th century was replaced by the current in 1883. The slab bridge, bascule bridge part is adorned with ornamental pieces of cast iron (with city arms), a vase stone balustrade, obelisks decorated with stone lantern bearers and matching lanterns.
