Amersfoort ) is a city and municipality in the east of the Dutch province of Utrecht in the middle of the country. The municipality has 158,712 inhabitants, called Amersfoorters and has a total area of 63.86 km², of which 62.62 km² is land and 1.24 km² is water (January 31, 2022, Source: CBS[2]). In terms of population, it is the second largest city in the province of Utrecht and the fifteenth in the Netherlands. In addition to the main city of the same name, the municipality of Amersfoort consists of the much smaller centers Hoogland and Hooglanderveen.
Amersfoort is a growth city and fulfills an economic regional function with a strongly growing business community, has one of the largest railroad junctions in the Netherlands and is an important garrison city. The inner city has a medieval character with old defenses such as moats and city walls.
