Amerongen Castle is a castle in the floodplains of the Lower Rhine near the village of Amerongen. It belongs to the 'Top 100 of the Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg' from 1990. Since the end of the thirteenth century the castle has been inhabited by families of diplomats and soldiers who played a prominent role in (inter)national politics. In 1673 the castle was burnt down by Louis XIV's French troops. On the old foundations the current castle was built in a for that time common Dutch-classic style. The house was completed in1680.
