American bald eagles live near large bodies of water in North America. These birds are native to Canada, the United States, parts of Mexico, and several islands including Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Populations are primarily concentrated in Florida, Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and areas near some rivers and lakes in the Midwest. Smaller populations live in Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Roaming American bald eagles have been observed in Belize, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. There are also reports of sightings from Ireland, Sweden, Siberia, Greenland, and northeast Asia.
