Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.

About ‘Amarapura Township: U Bein Brug’ by Maarten Verhees

U Bein Brug is een oversteek over het Taungthaman-meer in de buurt van Amarapura in Myanmar. De 1,2 kilometer lange brug werd rond 1850 gebouwd en wordt beschouwd als de oudste en (ooit) langste teakhouten brug ter wereld. De bouw begon toen de hoofdstad van Ava Kingdom naar Amarapura verhuisde en de brug is vernoemd naar de burgemeester die de brug liet bouwen. Het wordt gebruikt als een belangrijke doorgang voor de lokale bevolking en is ook een toeristische attractie geworden en daarom een belangrijke bron van inkomsten voor souvenirverkopers. Het is vooral druk in juli en augustus wanneer het meer het hoogst is.
