Altar in the wooden stave church of Heddal, Norway.
Of course, the interior is also made of wood. The walls are beautifully painted.
This is the largest surviving stave church in Norway. There are still 28 of them.
The church was built in the 13th century and this is the only church with 3 towers. After the Reformation, the building was so damaged that it had to be restored.
It is a particularly strong piece of architecture.
The church stands in the municipality of Notodden in the Norwegian province of Telemark.
Heddal's stave church is a much-visited tourist attraction and is still used for church services.
