This is Albert, the current alpha male at the Pondok Tanggui orangutan rehabilitation center in Tanjung Puting National Park in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Alpha males constantly defend their territory and females from other males and newcomers, and it happens that an alpha male is defeated (loses to a newcomer), and then the caretakers don't see him at the center anymore. Then whether he has learned enough (for those who are born at the center) or healed enough (for those who are found and brought to the center with wounds) and survives in the jungle, they cannot determine because the area where they live is impenetrable, so it often happens that they never see the loser again.
