About ‘Alone among the lanterns in Sa Pa’ by Ron Poot

Sa Pa is a mountain village in northern Vietnam. It is known for its beautiful views of the surrounding mountainous country. There are many rice fields that make beautiful patterns in the landscape.

The village attracts many tourists. Yet it also has its quiet moments. As in the picture, in the late afternoon. The restaurants are still closed, people go to their homes or rest in their hotels.

Only a little girl is still walking down the street, on her way home. Or looking for...? It reflects a contradiction. On the one hand, the exuberant lanterns, associated with bustle and entertainment, on the other, the sad deserted street with empty restaurants and a lost girl.
