Alfred Sisley, an Impressionist painter in the style of Corot, shows the same sensitivity, the same taste for harmony and the play of light and shadow, and the same love of landscape. Sisley first settled in the Île-de-France region, in Louveciennes, Bougival or Marly, and later in Moret. His favourite subjects were the rivers Seine and Loing, their banks and towpaths, and distant hills, and he always made the sky and light important components of the landscape. A sophisticated colourist, he was a master of nuance and a great draughtsman. The roof lines, windows and doors of his houses form a fine geometry in his paintings.
Alfred Sisley (Paris, 30 October 1839 - Moret-sur-Loing, 29 January 1899) was a British Impressionist painter, who lived and worked largely in France.
