The last light of the day falls softly on the side of the Akerk in Groningen city, just before sunset. The skyline of Groningen is embellished by the beautiful colours of the setting sun.
The A-Church is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Groningen and has a rich history dating back to the 13th century. It was originally a Roman Catholic church dedicated to St Nicholas, the patron saint of boatmen but in 1594 Groningen passed to the Reformation.
Today, the A-Church has a function other than religious. It has been converted into a cultural centre where various events such as exhibitions, concerts, lectures and markets take place. It has become an important meeting place for locals and tourists alike.
All in all, the A-Church is an intriguing monument in Groningen that is both historically and culturally significant. It represents the rich history of the city of Groningen and remains a lively centre of cultural activities.
