In 1972 I visited this ruined Corfe Castle in Purbeck-Dorset with my parents and sisters. A good 40 years later I have been there again. In the town at the foot of the ruined castle I stayed in a beautiful country house.
The former fortress dates from the 11th century and was commissioned by William the Conqueror and built on a high hillside. It's a great place for walking and painting.
