During our Eastern European trip, my friend and I discovered an enchanting place: a dilapidated villa in Croatia. There, there was an intriguing stained-glass greenhouse, a silent witness to past glory. Our curiosity led us through an overgrown gate, past once inhabited servants' quarters, to the villa's back door.
The resulting photograph captures the essence of this abandoned oasis, where nature reclaimed its territory. Lush plants grow among rusty tracks, broken tiles and shattered glass, while the colours of the damaged stained glass cast a kaleidoscope on the weathered floor. The sculpture tells the poignant story of nature triumphing over human constructions, where the winter garden now serves as a haven for untamed growth.
Amidst this dilapidated splendour, the broken stained glass arouses conflicting emotions, a reminder of bygone elegance. A fascinating anecdote enriches the story: depicting the villa's former glory, with a lady cherishing her favourite flowers. This picture, a chance discovery during our trip, speaks not only to urban explorers but also to lovers of rustic charm and abandoned architecture. It offers a visual journey into the delicate dance between nature and man-made structures, all within a compact 231 words.
