This is a photo I took in the living room of an abandoned house in the completely empty village of Alianello in Italy. In the mid-19th century, the village was damaged by an earthquake and was actually no longer fit to live in. Despite this, a number of people remained who did not want to leave their home and village. Unfortunately, fate struck again in 1980 when the Irpinia earthquake made the village, and many villages in the area including the 'famous' Craco, uninhabitable.
