A view upwards in Paris – a classic sandstone façade

by The Frame Architect

This photograph shows a classic Parisian Haussmann-style façade from an unusual, steep low-angle perspective. The eye wanders from the stone portal along symmetrical cornices and wrought-iron balconies straight up into the bright sky. It is only at second glance that subtle details become apparent: artfully chiselled leaf motifs on the massive stone corbels, the gentle curve of the building’s corner on the left, and the small patch of vibrant greenery on the balcony to the right. Above, delicate plane tree branches frame the scene, creating an organic counterpoint to the austere geometry of the stone. The photograph was taken in Paris. Driven by my passion for architecture, I wanted to break away from the usual perspective in the hustle and bustle of city life: stepping close to the façade and looking straight up was enough to capture the quiet grandeur of this building in a completely new light.

Thanks to the extreme low-angle view and the soft, slightly desaturated colour palette, the work exudes a warm, poetic tranquillity. The natural tones of sandstone, cream and sage green lend every room a sense of greater height and spaciousness – a timeless eye-catcher for the living room, bedroom, hallway or office, which blends perfectly with modern, Scandinavian or classic interior styles.
