A rare sight in midsummer: fresh snow covers the peaks of the Allgäu's main ridge, even though it is July. From the Zeigersattel, a wide view of a dramatic mountain landscape opens up. The peaks of the Trettachspitze (2,595 m), the striking Mädelegabel (2,645 m), the Bockkarkopf (2,609 m) and the Hochfrottspitze (2,649 m) rise sharply and mightily into the sky. The fresh blanket of snow lies like a delicate veil over the jagged flanks and makes the contours of the mountains stand out even more clearly.
Below, the lush green of the slopes contrasts with the white of the heights, while light and shadow alternate in the valleys. Clouds slowly drift across the scenery, lending the landscape a mysterious depth. On the far right rises the Biberkopf, at 2,599 metres the southernmost point in Germany - an angular, massive mountain that proudly watches over the panorama.
This view in the Allgäu Alps is both powerful and tranquil - a moment of sublimity that visualises the simultaneity of summer and winter. It is an encounter with the wildness of nature, which speaks its own language in every season.
