This giant turtle is the only guest at the beach bar at Anse Severe (also called Turtle Beach) on La Digue (Seychelles) around noon.
La Digue is home to about 50 free-living specimens of the giant tortoise. If you are travelling on the island, you will come across a tortoise again and again, even on the road. These are Aldabra giant tortoises, which can easily live to be 200 years old and even older.
Male specimens can grow to 1.30 m long and weigh 250 kg. Females reach a body length of just under 1.00 m and a weight of 167 kg.
