A Lonely Goodbye is a narrative work in which you see a woman sitting on a bench in the bus stop. Next to her is a brown suitcase. The weather is rainy, puddles are forming on the road, and the lighting of the bus shelter also looks desolate. Judging by the lack of daylight, the sun is either just rising or just setting.
The bus stop is in a remote area with many trees and greenery. We don't see anyone else.
Judging by the clothes and suitcase, this could be a scene from another time period.
Is this lady sitting here sheltering from the rain or waiting for the first or last bus?
With my staged works, I try to get the viewer to think of a story and give several outlines for this. I won't tell you the story I saw in this because it is much more fun to stimulate the imagination of the viewer.
For this and my other staged works I have been inspired a lot by the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf whose style appeals to me a lot and whom I look up to very much.
My work exists at the intersection of modern Pop Art and Expressionism, with influences from Modernism. Contrast, whether in light, color, or subject, plays a central role in my art. The color red is often prominently featured.
