A close-up of a water lily on deck by Scheepskijker Havenfotografie

A close-up of a mooring rope on deck, captured in vivid, almost abstract detail. Carefully wrapped around the bollard, the loops and strands create an interplay of lines. Against the dark background, the rope’s strength and structure come beautifully to life. Port photography is a fascinating form of photography that focuses on capturing the hustle and bustle of ports. Port cities are often bustling centres of trade and industry, where ships, lorries and trains come and go to load and unload goods. This offers photographers the opportunity to capture stunning images of large ships moored at the quay, cranes loading and unloading containers onto and off the ships, and workers busy at their tasks. Port photography can be challenging, as there is often a great deal of movement and activity, and the light is constantly changing. But when the right moments are captured, port photo's can yield impressive and inspiring images.
