A new day dawns with a beautiful sunrise. Slowly the first sunrays drive away the morning mist. This nature reserve near Nijmegen is a popular place to photograph the sunrise. At the end of the summer the heather starts to bloom purple, which gives the landscape a beautiful glow.Hatertse en Overasseltse Vennen is a fens area of about 520 hectares in the municipalities Heumen and Wijchen, province Gelderland. The area consists of about twenty named fens and the surrounding river dune, heath and forest area. The area lies southwest of Nijmegen. Once this area, southwest of Nijmegen, was created by the Waal and the Maas. Nowadays both rivers are far away, but because of the river clay they left behind you can now enjoy the more than 20 fens.
