The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite and is the fourth largest moon in our solar system. It is sometimes referred to by its Latin name Luna.
Most moons in the solar system are very small, but there are some large planetary moons. This includes our moon. Although there are moons in the solar system that are even larger than our moon (namely, Ganymede, Titan, Callisto, and Io), the Earth and Moon are called double planets because the Moon is not very small compared to Earth: the mass of the Moon Moon is 1/81 of that of the earth. However, the common center of gravity around which the Earth and Moon revolve is still within the Earth. Only with the dwarf planet Pluto and its moon Charon is the moon proportionally larger, namely 1/8 of the planetary mass and the common center of gravity outside of Pluto.
