A giant iceberg floats majestically close to the Kongsfjord near Tasiilaq in Greenland. The bright white of the snow on the ice seems to flow almost seamlessly into the soft white of the clouds above. Only a subtle blue glow just above the surface betrays the icy depths of this colossus. Although we are still miles away from the iceberg, its immense size makes it seem within reach. It is as if we could walk right over the mirror-smooth water, a sea that invites with an almost surreal serenity.
But the illusion of serenity is occasionally broken. Close to the iceberg, where the shelter of the fjord ends, the wind manages to blow a gentle ripple across the water. The boat's engine falls silent, and suddenly overwhelming silence fills the room. Only the fragile tingle of melting ice breaks the silence, like a reminder of the continuous passage of time.
In these surroundings, as a human being, you only feel insignificant. The grandeur of nature imposes itself, both in its silence and its immense scale. Here, in the shadow of the iceberg and surrounded by the endless white, human concerns become small and meaningless. This is a place where you can just listen, watch, and breathe in the overwhelming beauty of Greenland.
