As a child, I really used to be one of those horse girls, always hanging out at the riding school and on holidays always going to a riding camp. Lovely.
In my adolescence, the riding school gave way to Duindigt, where trotting and racing were always held on Wednesdays and Sundays. I always came to a stable with trotters and soon I couldn't get away from the sulky.
In the afternoon, the horses always went out to pasture in the summer, which is what inspired this work.
The middle horse, the grey, was made a grey on purpose. In trotting sports, moulds are a rarity.
Horses are a real herd animal and this work shows that perfectly in the picture. It is somewhat reminiscent of a herd of wild horses as they still used to be found in America. The wild mustangs grazing on the wide plains.
This herd of horses with a radiant grey as its centrepiece will certainly come into its own in an interior of a true horse lover.
Who steps inside this world of roaring hoofbeats and proud horse heads?
