This romantic seascape was taken on 10 August 2026 in the late evening during the ‘golden hour’ (photography) using a NIKON D800 (lens: NIKKOR 50.0 mm f/1.4).

The waves lapping back and forth bring an enchanting dynamism to the composition.
Behind them, the setting sun – which will soon disappear behind the mountain ridges – creates a fascinating, beguiling atmosphere.
Simply a dreamlike interplay of people, nature and the power of the sun.
Amoudara beach leaves one with a unique, warm feeling.
The combination of the beach’s endless expanse, the magical play of light and the profound sense of tranquillity makes beachcombers on the Amoudara coast during the golden hour a special sight for both the eye and the soul.

The warm light of a late summer evening transforms the kilometre-long sandy beach into an atmospheric stage.

The low, golden sunlight casts extremely long shadows. The figures of the beachgoers stand out as sharp, dark silhouettes against the glistening sea and the reddish-yellow sky.

The light-coloured sand reflects the warm gold and orange, whilst the Cretan Sea, as evening falls, is bathed in deep shades of blue and violet.
The group of people at the far end of the beach forms the lively focal point of the scene.

At over five kilometres long, Amoudara is one of the longest sandy beaches in the region.
At golden hour, the beach empties, and the remaining walkers appear peaceful, almost meditative, against the vastness of the landscape.

Their rhythmic walking in time with the waves exudes a deep sense of serenity. It perfectly captures the quintessentially Greek attitude to life known as ‘siga-siga’ (slowness).

Amoudara is renowned for its breeze, which often attracts windsurfers. When the wind dies down in the evening or the sea stirs gently, the warm light captures the spray and the movements of the beachgoers in a unique way.
