Stars on Carré is a digital artwork that captures an enchanting nocturnal scene of Amsterdam. The sky is deep blue, dotted with twinkling stars that watch over the city like a silent spectator. Under this starry sky, the Amstel River meanders through the image, the surface of the water a living canvas of light reflections. The glare of countless lights dances on the waves, creating an almost magical effect.
In the foreground, on the left, a characteristic houseboat lies still in the water, anchored in tranquillity. Above the boat towers Royal Theatre Carré, atmospherically lit. The façade bears the memory of Herman van Veen, who just gave his 600th performance here - a milestone that hangs like an invisible echo in the night. In the middle of the picture is the Skinny Bridge, classically and radiantly lit, its contours sharply outlined against the darkness.
To the right stretch the stately Amsterdam mansions, their facades gently reflected in the river. The row of houses continues beyond the bridge, slowly fading towards the horizon. The scene breathes silence and admiration, without a single person in sight. The absence of people emphasises the timelessness and serene beauty of the city.
Stars on Carré captures a poetic moment in which history, art and urban beauty come together under the stars, as an ode to Amsterdam by night.
