The digital artwork "Veilingstraat 23" shows an intriguing balcony, captured from an unusual perspective: angled from the ground floor, looking up to the first floor. Central to the image is the balcony's yellow metal balustrade, into which a sophisticated pattern has been cut out. These cutouts create a play of light and shadow, vaguely revealing the contours of the windows behind the balustrade - a subtle reference to the flat of commissioned artist Dymphy, the artist's heart and art friend. The perspective emphasises both the height and intimate closeness of the place, as if the viewer is quietly looking up into a personal world behind the metal.
Above the balustrade, a green artificial plant sticks out idiosyncratically, half-visible and bending slightly over the edge, providing a playful contrast to the austere geometry of the balcony. The façade around the balcony is constructed of brownish-red bricks with clear joints, evoking a warm, almost nostalgic atmosphere. Grey pipes run over the bricks, giving the sculpture an industrial touch and creating a subtle field of tension with the organic look of the plant.
The whole balances between abstraction and recognisability: the carved patterns in the balustrade blur the boundary between inside and outside, between private and public. The artwork invites the viewer to look through the openings and form a story about the people and lives behind this façade, without being in the picture themselves.
